Starting Friday, September 15 and continuing through Tuesday, September 26, the Central Garage will be closed to all parking. This closure is to facilitate repairs to drain lines within the garage. This past winter the drains frequently backed up, creating large areas of ice. This resulted in unsafe conditions for vehicles and pedestrians. These repairs will address this issue. The East Garage and Engineering Garage will continue to be available during this time, as will the surface lot in front of Central Garage.
Thank you for your understanding.

This summer the Municipality of Anchorage began a project to add a sidewalk along the west-side of UAA Drive. The sidewalk runs from Mallard Lane to the existing sidewalk next to ECB. The Municipality intended to have the project completed before the start of the semester. They were unable to meet that goal. UAA Facilities has received numerous inquiries about the schedule of this project and when the traffic diversion on UAA Drive will end.
As of 9/5/17 the Municipality reported some rework required on the sidewalk that was installed last week. They expect to address the issue this week, with the intention of returning to the normal traffic pattern by the week of September 11. The work is weather dependent, so there is a chance their schedule will push out again.
There are currently several on-going projects from the city and local utilities that will impact traffic around campus for the first week of the semester. The work is weather dependent, so specific dates cannot be provided.
ML&P work in Providence Drive: the right-hand westbound lane from Spirit Dr. to Seawolf Dr. will continue to be closed into the week of the 28th. The right-hand eastbound lane from Spirit Dr. to UAA Dr. will be closed until the middle of the week of the 28th.
Municipality of Anchorage sidewalk addition on UAA Drive: MOA does not expect to complete their concrete work before Monday. Lane restrictions around this project will cause significant traffic impacts for southbound traffic and those accessing Alumni Drive from UAA Drive.
ML&P work at 36th and Old Seward: this intersection will experience a full closure this weekend. The intersection will reopen early Monday. Intermittent lane closures will persist during weekdays.
Municipal Light and Power expects the west-bound closure of Providence Drive between Seawolf Drive and Spirit Drive to conclude prior to Saturday, August 26. ML&P could not provide an exact date, as much of the remaining work is weather dependent.
As soon as the west-bound lanes are open, ML&P will be conducting a single-lane closure of east-bound Providence Drive between Spirit Drive and UAA Drive. See the map below. This is not a complete closure of east-bound traffic. This single-lane closure is expected to last 7 days.
On Wednesday, August 16, Municipal Light and Power's closure of west-bound lanes of Providence Drive will shift. The closure will be between Seawolf Drive and Spirit Drive. East-bound lanes will be accessible.
On Saturday, August 19, ML&P's work will extend into the Seawolf Drive intersection. This will temporarily block access to campus via Seawolf Drive. Access will be maintained via Spirit Drive. This closure is expected to last several days.
On Wednesday, August 16th ENSTAR will begin repairs to the gas distribution line that runs in front of the Templewood housing units. This work is expected to take 1 week. Please be aware of equipment and crews working in this area.
Expect a significant presence of large truck traffic entering and leaving the South Lot as a result of the EIB walkway and parking lot project. Caution should be taken when walking to/from your vehicles in this area, especially when near the site fence access gates. Please do not enter or walk through the active construction area.
On Thursday, August 10th, Municipal Light and Power's work will extend into the intersection at Spirit Drive. This will temporarily block access to campus via Spirit Drive. Access will be maintained via Seawolf Drive. This closure is expected to last several days.
East-bound thru-traffic will be able to use the intersection during this time
On August 1 Neeser Construction will start repairs to the South Lot and sidewalk adjacent to the Engineering and Industry Building. They are expected to complete the work by August 25. See the map below for the anticipated impacts to the South Parking Lot and west EIB sidewalk.
The main entry to the EIB will be closed. Pedestrian traffic going to/from South Parking Lot will be directed to the sidewalk south of EIB. Additionally, the Pay-&-Park will be unavailable during this time.
On Tuesday, July 18th, Municipal Light and Power will be transferring the electrical service for the following buildings:
WFSC, SU, Bookstore/GSS, ANSEP, EIB, ECB, NSB, Central Garage, and SSB.
These buildings will be temporarily serviced by electrical equipment on West Campus while new gear is installed on Providence Drive near SSB. ML&P is confident the work will be conducted without a power outage; however, the risk of short outages exists any time this equipment is handled. It will take most of the day to complete the transfer.
Later this week - tentatively Thursday - this work will be conducted again, but in reverse order, to transfer the load to the new equipment.
Beginning the weekend of July 15 UAA Drive will be closed between Alumni Drive and Providence Drive. In addition, the west-bound lanes of Providence Drive will be closed between Spirit Drive and Alumni Drive. See the map below. The intersection and west-bound lanes between UAA Drive and Alumni Drive will reopen the morning of July 17. From July 17 to August 7 the west-bound lanes of Providence Drive between Spirit Drive and UAA Drive will be closed. East-bound lanes will remain open. UAA's internal detour route is Alumni Drive and Mallard Lane.
Starting Monday, July 10 Seawolf Drive will experience a partial closure. This is to conduct repairs on a failed fire hydrant next to the Rasmuson Hall. Traffic will detour through the Sports Center West Lot. Due to the detour traffic parking will not be available in the Sports Center West Lot.
This project was previously announced for June 23. Circumstances forced a delay in the schedule.
Beginning on Saturday, June 24 Municipal Light and Power will begin work on electrical distribution infrastructure along UAA Drive and Providence Drive. This work will cause significant road closures.
During the weekend of June 24 and 25 UAA Drive will be closed between Alumni Drive and Providence Drive. In addition, the west-bound lanes of Providence Drive will be closed between Alumni Drive and UAA Drive. See the map below. East-bound lanes will remain open. UAA's internal detour route is Alumni Drive and Mallard Lane.
The UAA Drive closure will end by Monday morning. The west-bound closure of Providence Drive will continue for several weeks. ML&P has not communicated an end date at this time.
On the morning of June 19th a minor sink hole was discovered around the storm drain within the SU/Bookstore service lot. The area has been cordoned off and crews are assessing repair options. Until the repairs are complete there will be no access to the SU loading dock. Expect a lot of activity in this area over the next few weeks.
Due to the nature of the work, the area impacted by the storm drain repair work on Alumni Drive has been expanded. The sidewalks and paths around the Fine Arts Building will remain open. ADA spaces have been temporarily relocated.
We are experiencing aggressive seagull activity between the Library and Admin. We believe the chicks are starting to hatch, so the parents are becoming hyper protective. Pedestrians in this area should be aware and avoid the pathway through the trees next to the intersection of Science Circle and Alumni Drive.
From June 12 to June 25 Alumni Drive will be closed between the Fine Arts Building and the Administration/Humanities Building. This closure is to accommodate repair work to campus storm drains. The Fine Arts Building and East Lot will be accessible from the north.
On Tuesday, May 23 ground boring activity will occur in South Lot. The row of South Lot adjacent to the Engineering and Industry Building will be offline as a result of this activity. There was significant ground heaving during the seasonal break up this year. This work will inform our approach to mitigating this heaving in the future.
Work is underway this summer to install heating and cooling systems in the Natural Sciences Building. The heating and cooling for the building is presently served by a utility building across the East Campus Central Lot. The impacted area includes the wooded area north of the building and a section of the East Campus Central Lot. Work will include installation of boilers and drilling a cooling well in the wooded area north of the building.
Due to the impacted area, the pathway on the north side of the building will be closed. Pedestrians using the exterior paths should utilize the pathway along Providence Drive.
The Natural Sciences Building will remain accessible during construction. The interior pathway through the spine will be maintained.
Beginning at 2:00 pm on April 14 a contractor will be addressing issues with the gravel patch in the Alumni Drive roadway near the Oppenheim sculpture. This will require a full closure of Alumni between Admin and Arts (map below). All parking lots will remain accessible during this time.
